Application Process

Eligibility

This program is open to public school students in grades 10 and 11 in Alameda, San Francisco, and West Contra Costa counties.  Students must be full time residents of the state of California. Participants MUST BE 16 by June 17, 2024. 

We especially encourage high school students from underrepresented groups in STEM - Black, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Latinx, LGBTQ+, students from low income households, and those who will be the first generation in their family to attend college - to apply. 

This program is for current high school sophomores and juniors.

Recommendations

Student applications must be accompanied by a recommendation by an educator, supervisor or mentor who can attest to the student's work ethic and potential to benefit from participating in BLDAP. Students will provide the name and contact information for their recommender in the application form, and should confirm beforehand that their chosen person is willing and able to provide the necessary information.

Apply via the linked Kaleidoscope form. 

Required: The name and email of one science, math or technology teacher and/or STEM mentor who can provide a recommendation. You will share the name and email address of your recommender at any time during the application process with the Kaleidoscope form. They will receive an email from the platform.

2024 Important dates

Applications close: April 1, 2024 at 11:59 PM PST 

Applications review: April 3 through April 19, 2024

Applicant Interviews: Late April 

Notification of selection and non-selection to applicants: May 3, 2024

Orientation 1: This will be an introduction to the program and to help students go over the required paperwork. There will be two virtual sessions held:

Orientation 2: Students will be required to attend. This virtual orientation will cover logistics and onboarding.
