BLDAP Application

Congratulations to the BLDAP Alumni of 2022! Check back next February to apply to BLDAP 2023

Application Process

This program is open to public school students in grades 10 and 11 in Alameda, San Francisco, and West Contra Costa counties. Students must be full time residents of the state of California to apply.

We especially encourage high school students from underrepresented groups in STEM - African Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Latinx, LGBTQ+, students from low income households, and those who will be the first generation in their family to attend college - to apply.

This program is for current sophomores and juniors.

Student applications must be accompanied by a recommendation by an educator, supervisor or mentor who can attest to the student's work ethic and potential to benefit from participating in BLDAP. Students will provide the name and contact information for their recommender in the application form, and should confirm beforehand that their chosen person is willing and able to provide the necessary information.

Recommenders will be sent the recommendation form, or can access it here. Recommendations will be due Sunday, April 10, 2022.

Required: The name and email of one science, math or technology teacher and/or STEM mentor who can provide a recommendation. The K-12 team will reach out to recommenders.

The form includes the following short free-response questions:

The answers to these questions will be used to evaluate your application. Please use this opportunity to let us know about your personality, motivations, and curiosity.

  1. Tell us why you want to attend the Berkeley Lab Director's Apprenticeship Program? How do you think you would benefit from attending this program?

  2. If you could make a discovery of a new element or solve a world/community problem, what would it be and why?
