Pinole Vally High School Health Academy Senior Defense Virtual Presentations
Date: May 26th or May 27th, 3:00 - 5:00pm
Description: Pinole Valley is seeking volunteers to be on the panel of judges for their Senior Defense Presentations. Students will be demonstrating that they have achieved the Health Academy Student Outcomes (DOCCCS) by exploring a community issue of choice and presenting a novel solution to the problem. Come witness how your role as a community, post-secondary, or industry partner has helped prepare these students for college & career!

March 2021
Alameda County Science & Engineering Fair
Date: March 6, 10am-3pm (Virtual Round 1); March 14, 10am-3pm (Virtual Round 2)
Description: Judge student projects via video interviews from safety of your home. Judges have online access to the assigned student projects for two days before the Fair to prepare for interviews. There will be training session on two different dates in February; it is only required to attend one. Recording will be provided if you cannot attend. Round 1 judging determines 1st-4th places in each category and projects that will move on to Round 2. Round 2 judging determines projects eligible for the top next level fairs: California SEF, Broadcom Masters and ISEF.

Contra Costa County Science & Engineering Fair
Date: March 12, 8am-5pm
Description: The Contra Costa Science Fair expects to have more than 200 student competitors who will need your expertise to evaluate project boards and conduct interviews. Our goal is to engage more than 140 judges to be on hand to give every child the opportunity to share their science and engineering projects with multiple judges during the competition. The virtual fair will require a full 8 hours of judges' time to ensure every child gets interviewed about their project. Judges will have same-day training to prepare you for the virtual experience (see Judging Day agenda below). Choose among the six competition categories:
behavioral/social sciences including gerontology
biological including biochemistry, microbiology, zoology, botany, medicine, and health
engineering
environmental sciences
math/computer sciences
physical science including chemistry, earth and space, and physics

Golden Gate Stem Fair
Date: March 8-11, in shifts
Description: GGSF operates as a part of an extended science competition pathway that begins with science fairs at individual junior and senior high schools. Over 70,000 Middle and High School students throughout the San Francisco Bay Area complete science projects for science fairs at their schools. Judges being recruited for the following categories:

Berkeley High Seeks Volunteers for Virtual "Career Month"
Date: March 2021, 2 pm
Description: Berkeley High School (BHS) continues to operate in distance learning mode with student/teacher interactions occurring via Zoom. This year BHS' annual College and Career week activities will be virtual and span the entire month of March. All panels will be facilitated by a BHS staff member and involve two to four professionals explaining their background and their current work, followed by Q&A.

Kennedy High School Information Technology Academy (ITA) Mentorship
Date: Spring 2021, multiple sessions
Description: This innovative program pairs students interested in a career with adults that have experience in similar careers. In the online sessions you will share topics that interest both you and the student. You will share your knowledge about your job and how you got it. And also look or critique at some of the student’s work. All that is required is openness, interest, and few (4 to 5) flexibly scheduled (15 minute) sessions during school hours.

Career Support for CSU East Bay students
Date: Week of October 12
One hour commitment
Description: As students face an uncertain employment future in light of the impacts of COVID-19, it is more important than ever to provide support as they transition from college to career. The Institute for STEM Education will be hosting a series of workshops for students to help them craft and fine-tune their resumes and cover letters, as well as develop their virtual interviewing skills. Volunteer roles include:
Participating as a virtual mock interviewer, asking the student predetermined questions
Review and provide feedback for resumes and cover letters as time permits (materials will be emailed at least three-days prior)
Provide additional professional feedback as time permits

Black Girls Code 2020 Hackathon
Date: Friday October 23 - Sunday October 25
We are asking that you commit to all three days. In order to volunteer, you must also attend a MANDATORY training a week prior to the event.
Description: Black Girls CODE 2020 hackathons are aimed to excite and motivate girls ages 12-17 to build and hack tech solutions to problems in the community. Girls will develop skills in ideation, team-working, app development, and presentation. They will create connections with each other and with their mentors, discover how tech can be a tool for social change, and explore a significant social justice issue and engage in creating solutions to the issue by using technology as a lever for change. Both Technical and Non-technical mentors are needed.

Scientific Adventures for Girls - Fall virtual teaching assistant
Date: Fall 2020
Description: Scientific Adventures for Girls provides after school STEM programs to TK-5th children with a special focus on girls and underserved youth to increase positive attitudes toward STEM, increase hands-on learning opportunities and encourage lifelong learning of STEM subjects. We have an exciting opportunity for you to be a volunteer Teaching Assistant this fall during our after school STEM programs. You will be able to engage and work directly with our girls doing hands on STEM - VIRTUALLY!
SAfG Time Commitment: We are looking for volunteers who have 2.5 hours a week for 12 weeks this fall in the afternoon assisting an SAfG Head Teacher in a virtual class. Times open Monday - Friday.
SAfG Support: All training and materials provided. Training will be virtual. You can do this for your home or office.

Engineering Design Showcase
Date: June 4 and June 5
Location: Virtually via UC Davis Now
Description: Given what is going on in the current climate with COVID-19 and spring quarter senior design courses taught online, the process and outcomes for the Engineering Design Showcase will be different from the years past. We are excited to share that we will be offering a virtual showcase in lieu of an in-person experience. Evaluators will have the opportunity to review projects virtually and provide feedback for students to review. Thank you for your important contribution to this event.

Berkeley Community Scholars Summer Mentorship
Date: long term commitment with meetings throughout the summer and school year

Description: High Hopes Scholars are university bound Berkeley public high school graduates with first-generation college, low-income, or underrepresented community backgrounds. Mentors serve as point of support in navigating the demands and challenges of higher education by providing inspiration, resources, advice, and insight.

GLOBE Student Research Symposium
Date: May 23 (1:00 - 3:00 pm)
Description: Join the Earth Team interns from Antioch, Pinole and Skyline high schools as they discuss their GLOBE research projects. Earth Team is a nonprofit that guides urban youth throughout the East Bay to become environmental stewards through experiential education, skills development, and the building of community connections. Due to COVID-19, this year’s Annual GLOBE Symposium at Moss Landing Marine Labs has been cancelled. Interns will come together over Zoom to present their research on toxic algae blooms and urban water quality trends. Organizational partners, local scientists, and government officials are invited to join, listen to presentations, and ask questions about student research.

Mock Interviews and Resume Building
Date: May 25 to June 5 (flexible scheduling)
Description: The Institute for STEM Education will be hosting a series of workshops for students to help them craft and fine-tune their resumes and cover letters, as well as develop their virtual interviewing skills. ISE is looking for professionals who would be able and willing to:

Participate as a mock video interviewer (paired with one other professional - interviews will be scheduled to accommodate your schedule)

May 2020
Dinner with a Scientist
Date: May 4 and May 5
Location: Chabot Space and Science Center
Description: Dinner with a Scientist (DWS) celebrations bring together local scientists, teachers, and students to learn about science over a semi-formal dinner. Each event will have ~250 people each.
Be a featured scientist: This includes researchers, graduate students, professors, engineers, doctors, and other professions that use science in their daily work. Our ideal candidate is someone who has an engaging personality, is excited about their work, and wants to share it with teachers and students. We encourage the recruitment of a diverse group of scientists and historically underrepresented groups. There is no cost to participate. The registration deadline for scientists is April 10. Be a keynote speaker: Ideally, this would be an interesting person with a fascinating narrative about their work. The format is similar to a 20 minute TED talk. If interested, email sarah.pipping@ousd.org
OUSD K-12 District Science Fair
Date: May 13 (5:00 - 8:00 pm)
Location: Chabot Space and Science Center
Description: This culminating evening celebration features ~200 student projects and hosts over 600 teachers, students, families, and community members each year. We are looking for event judges. We invite you to interact with students, ask them questions about their research, and provide feedback on their work. Let us know if you are interested by completing this judges registration form.

Synopsys Alameda County Science & Engineering Fair (SACSEF)
Date: Saturday, March 7, 2020 (7:00 am - 5:00 pm)
Location: Alameda State Fair Grounds
Description: The SACSEF is open to all students 6th-12th grades in Alameda County and is affiliated with both the CA State Fair as well as the ISEF International Fair. Our goal is to have each student participant speak to a minimum of seven (7) judges, thus, we are in need of 500 field experts who can ask questions and evaluate student projects. We will provide breakfast, coffee, lunch, and snacks throughout the day. Register to be a Judge.

Description: Pinole Valley High Engineering Academy 10th graders are taking Principles of Engineering this year. The Academy attempts to expose students to as many STEM hands on activities and study trips as possible throughout the year. This event is one of those methods of exposing students to various STEM disciplines. The Engineering Academy is seeking speakers to take part in this "reverse job shadow" day for 10th graders. Description: The purpose of our Career Day is to expose students to a variety of careers, the educational path followed to get there, and to excite them about the possibilities for their future. Volunteering would entail committing to speak to students in small groups about your career or career journey and answering any student questions. This will happen in a setting of approximately 5-8 students and you would get a chance to speak to multiple groups of students. Students will be supervised by their teachers and the small groups will be facilitated by another adult. You can commit to participating for 1 or more time slots.
